About the Winery
Vina Las Perdices is located in the foothills of the Andes Range at 3,380 ft. above sea level in Agrelo Lujan de Cuvo, the first Argentine DOC zone. The winery is a family business run by Juan Munoz Lopez, his wife Rosario, and his daughter and two sons, Estela, Nicolas and Carlos. In 1952, the family, led by Don Juan Munoz Lopez, decided to leave their home region of Andalucía in southern Spain and emigrate to Mendoza to broaden his horizons. His passion for the land and winemaking as well as the challenge of aging fine wines from his own vines, gave him the motivation to realize his dream. When he arrived in this land, he was astonished at the large number of partridges roaming here. As the days passed, the partridges became Don Juan’s constant companions in his long workdays. Thus, he decided to name his winery Partridge Vineyard: Vina las Perdices.
Vina Las Perdices possesses more than 173 ac. of vineyards consisting of 30 year old vines as well as younger vines planted in 1999. The entire production takes place in the new winery which is located in the heart of the vineyards in Agrelo. Vines in the winegrowing area of Barrancas, in the Maipu district complete the family domain. The Munoz Lopez family’s secret to making handcrafted wine is to combine tradition with technology. The winery, built in the typical Mendocino architectural style from the beginning of the 20th century includes top of the line machinery, 900,000 liter stainless steel tanks, and French and American oak barrels. The Munoz Lopez family’s production philosophy combines man’s meticulous hand with respect for the environment to produce superior quality wines.
