France – Domaine Des Chazelles

About the Winery

Our vineyard covers 8.2 acres of Chardonnay on the villages of Viré and Montbellet divided into 23 plots (parcels) and in three appellations; Viré-Clessé (5.7 ha), Mâcon-Villages (2 ha) and Mason (0.5 ha).

We are vinegrowers from father to son for three generations. The domain has been certified organic agriculture in 2006 (launched in 2003). The estate vineyards have always been ploughed without ever seeing synthetic herbicide. Our old vines aged 50 to 100 years represent 75% of the vineyards.

Wine from our grapes is natural and the harvest is manual, this for the pleasure of your senses.  Our style of wines is not ripe as can often be seen in the Viré – Clessé, we like the mineral expression of our terroir in our wines bouquet and the balance, purity, salinity and precision in their mouths.

Soil: The plot is situated on top of a hill, on a floor made of red clay in depth with a gravel surface, facing south -east, on the municipality of Clessé.  Vine: Planted in 1940, the vineyard, with its 65 years, is doing well. Short cut to nurse it, we produce about 50 hl / ha on this parcel of 70 acres. Mechanical soil working and treatments respectful of the environment.

Harvest: The grapes are harvested by hand.

Winemaking: The grapes are squeezed slowly, the wort racked cold then intoned in Burgundian barrels, French oak for five years in average age, including a new one each year. Fermentation and aging on lees in barrels for one year. The wines are blended several months for a mass rearing before setting without fining or filtration. We produce 4500 bottles of this wine.  A beautiful bright yellow dress escaping aromas of hawthorn and spices.  Combining a buttered side, the palace is round and balanced.
