About the Winery
BETWEEN EARTH AND SKY
We like to imagine, as in an ancient tale, that wine is the result of a magical bond between the earth and the sky, where the grapes dialogues during the day with the sun and at night with the stars.
The rolling line of the hills on the horizon, the green geometry of the vineyards, the silver of the olive trees and the roads dotted with cypresses, are part of the harmony of a landscape that is not only beauty but is also character and source of inspiration to create unique wines.
The Orsumella Estate is located in Montefiridolfi within the name of the Chianti Classico at 300 m.s.l., it covers 78 hectares of which 25 are used as vineyards and 11 for olive groves.
In the center of the Estate, along the ridge starda that leads to the town is La Pila, an ancient residence that since 1200 served as a “Court” for administrative and commercial activities and country farm for the noble Florentine family of the Buondelmonti.
THE NAME ORSUMELLA
In an ancient village story it is said that during summer nights young people loved to observe the stars reflected on the water of a stream that flowed at the bottom of a hole. There were seven, called Little Bear, and the brightest of them was the Polar Star. The stream has since been called Orsumella and still flows today in the middle of our vineyards.
It is from this stream that the Estate has drawn its name. Also in the brand tells the story of the Orsumella, with a big star at seven tips and six others smaller all around and the color could only be red, like wine.
